Host a bee-autiful bee-themed birthday party for your sweet bee. Find creative party decorations and birthday party ideas all in one place to bring this simple, but sweet party design to life!
Our sweet Adelyn Grace is officially one year old! I am not usually a huge party planner, but what is it about first birthdays? With it being Addie’s first birthday, it is only natural to want to make it extra special.
While brainstorming birthday themes, I gathered a list of everything she loved, from her favorite foods to her favorite toys. Then it hit me!
Josh had gotten Addie some “Squishy” stuffed animals for Valentine’s Day, one being a little honey bee. Still to this day, when Addie sees this yellow bumblebee she can’t help but squeal and smile. Something about that cute bee just gets her all excited.
Once the theme was set in stone, this first-time mother became a busy bee planning the perfect bee-day party.

Bee-Themed Birthday Party Decorations
Bee-Day Banner
One of the first tasks on my list was to create a beautiful backdrop for Adelyn’s first birthday. There are plenty of adorable banners and backdrops found on Amazon and Etsy, but I was willing to put my little bit of artistic ability to the test and create my very own backdrop.
For the banner, I purchased some brown wrapping/packing paper. This roll of paper is only 17.75″ wide, which was a bit shorter than I was hoping for, so I had to tape two pieces together. However, if you’d prefer not to have to fiddle with taping, Amazon does sell longer rolls of 24″ and 36″.
I found white, black, and yellow acrylic paint from Dollar Tree, plus a pack of circle sponges for the little bumblebees. With my art supplies and some brushes I already had at home, I went to work!
To go along with the bee theme, I did a little play on words and painted “Happy Bee Day”. I also added a few buzzing bees and shapes of honeycombs all around the banner. I know I’m biased, but I thought it turned out darling!
Some other unique ideas would be to paint some dripping honey from the top or some bee hives!
Bee-Themed Flower Balloon Decorations
No birthday celebration is complete without balloons! I purchased some bright yellow and white balloons at Dollar Tree. I initially thought I would make some sort of balloon arch to go along with the banner, but once I started watching some how-to YouTube videos, I passed on that idea. This momma had to keep her sanity amidst the chaos of planning a birthday bash!
Instead, I found these balloon flower clips! This little plastic clip holds 5 balloons in the shape of a flower. All I had to do was blow up the balloons, tie them off, and slide them into the clip. None of them broke and they looked darling! Shoutout to my husband for being the tape master and securing those balloons down – not an easy task on a slightly windy day!
I used the yellow balloons as the center of the flower and the white balloons as petals to make them look like daisies. This was way easier than making a balloon arch, took a fraction of the time it would’ve taken, and they were still just as festive.
Bee-Themed Dessert Table Decorations
Everyone’s favorite place at a party – the dessert table! To doll up this dessert table, I grabbed some yellow tablecloths from Dollar Tree to fit with the bee birthday party colors. Last minute I stopped at the grocery store and bought some white Baby’s Breath and Yellow Asters Solidago. What is it about fresh flowers that bring elegance and beauty to any special day?
I trimmed those up and added them to a bunch of Mason Jars to add some variety of color and height to the dessert table.
Bee-Themed Birthday Party Sweet Treats
One of the most adorable parts of one-year-old birthday celebrations is when the one-year-old gets to dive into their first birthday cake! Miss Addie however was so dainty! She barely got any frosting on her face, but she sure seemed to love the frosting.
Bee-Themed Smash Cake
For Adelyn’s cake, I went with a simple Sourdough Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. I used my Sourdough Vanilla Cupcake recipe and baked it as a cake.
I used a 5-Piece Layer Cake Pan Set to make this layered smash cake. I placed all five pans on the same oven rack to bake. They cooked the cake evenly and were so easy to clean – highly recommend them!
Once the cake was cooled and stacked, I covered them in buttercream frosting. I also whipped up some white chocolate ganache and poured it over the frosted cake to make it look like delicious honey spilled on the cake. So cute, right?
For a bee-themed party, there have to be bumblebees on the cake! Though I would do almost anything for my daughter, I wasn’t about to make my own fondant bumblebee decorations. Luckily I found these cute bumblebee cake decorations. It came as a pack of 48, so I used half for the cake and the other half to decorate the cupcakes.
My favorite detail had to be this charming cake topper! It was a simple wooden cutout of bees and honeycomb, but it tied in perfectly with the birthday theme.
Bee-Themed Cupcakes
Adelyn’s smash cake wouldn’t cut it for the almost 30 people at her birthday party, so I whipped up a few extra treats! I made cupcakes from the same Sourdough Vanilla Cupcake recipe and topped them off with buttercream frosting. The cousins gobbled them up!
Bee-Themed Cookies
Lastly, I made a double batch of my Sourdough Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies! The color of the butterscotch chips reminded me of honey, so we rolled with it. I displayed some of the cookies in my glass cookie jars and the rest on a platter. Yum!
Bee-Themed Birthday Party Favors
The final touch to the bee-packed birthday party was the party favor! I kept it simple and made a little white, black, and yellow trail mix with Honeycomb cereal, white chocolate-covered pretzels, and chocolate chips.
